Introduction: I am a young at heart lady with some sight‑impairment, looking for a reliable, practical, and friendly person to provide support for a few hours each week. The right person will help me stay safe while continuing to enjoy everyday activities and creative projects, and give me a little independence back.
Responsibilities:
- Support in my garden – helping me move around safely outdoors and assisting with practical gardening, making being outside an enjoyable experience.
- Support with technology – helping me understand and use my iMac computer.
- Local outings of my choosing – accompanying me on short local visits, sometimes for purpose and sometimes just to escape to some tranquillity.
- Support me with practical and creative activities – I enjoy making clothing, knitting, curtains, shelves, and other household items. I need someone to support me to do this safely, help with materials, and work alongside me.
- Carry out any other reasonable requests that the service user may make from time to time.
An important part of the role is being able to converse naturally, sometimes describe what is happening, and explain things clearly so the experience is enjoyable, engaging, and confidence‑building.
Requirements:
- Friendly, patient, and a good conversationalist
- Able to clearly describe surroundings and activities in a non‑overbearing way
- Practical and comfortable with hands‑on tasks
- Safety‑aware without taking over
- Flexible with working times
- Good sense of humour
- Encouraging and respectful of independence
- Car owner with a full driving licence and business insurance
Additional Conditions: This role would suit someone either experienced or returning to work around young family commitments, who enjoys one‑to‑one work, values creativity, and understands the importance of making activities both safe and fun. This appointment is subject to an enhanced DBS check, which will incur no cost to the applicant. Probationary period of up to six months following a trial period of one month. References may be required. Training will be provided at arm’s cost. Annual leave and statutory entitlements will be detailed in the contract of employment. A Personal Assistants Handbook will be issued upon commencement.
