Introduction: Are you outgoing and friendly and passionate about your work? If so, you could be the ideal caring Personal Assistant that is required to support a man in his own home and help him get active in the community. The aim of this direct payment is to reduce the client’s social isolation and help him regain some independent living. The client has poor mobility following several strokes and will be completely dependent on your help to go into town and enjoy activities such as coffee, going to the bank, attending appointments, etc. As his PA you will be re-opening the door to his social freedom, giving him back the choices we all take for granted. Without this support he is unable to leave his flat. This post is funded by the local authority through the Direct Payments scheme and is intended to enable the client to remain independently living at home with support.
Main duties:
- Provide the means for him to socialise outside in the community.
- Assist with meal planning and preparation.
- Assist with some light domestic cleaning.
- Reduce social isolation.
- Ensure the client’s safety and wellbeing at all times when on duty.
- Carry out any other reasonable requests that the employer may make from time to time.
Person Specification:
- Caring, honest, firm but patient.
- Proactive individual with local knowledge of area.
- A good sense of humour.
- An ability to develop and maintain a supportive relationship.
- Flexibility around hours of work and main duties of the job.
- Excellent work ethic with good time keeping.
- Able to use own initiative and be self-motivated.
- Able to maintain confidentiality and be aware of privacy.
Benefits: 5.6 weeks’ holiday per year (pro-rata).

You must be eligible to work in the UK and your employer will conduct document checks prior to commencement. You will receive the appropriate annual leave entitlement as well as all other statutory entitlements, details of which will be set out in your contract of employment. You will also be issued with a Personal Assistants Handbook when your employment commences. You will be expected to undertake any mandatory training identified as relevant to this post. The cost of mandatory training will be met through the direct payment. Failure to attend mandatory training may result in your employment offer being withdrawn.
