Vacancy at Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust for a Consultant Psychiatrist – Intellectual Disability, Pennine Lancashire (10PA). This post is eligible for a 5% payment of basic salary payable over 2 years. We are seeking to recruit a substantive Consultant Psychiatrist to work as part of the Community Intellectual Disability teams in Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale (BPR) and Hyndburn/Ribble Valley (HRV). The post is full time (10 PAs) and newly created, working alongside and supported by the Specialist Doctor mainly based in Blackburn. There is no On Call commitment for this post.
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Assessment and treatment of people with learning disabilities with additional mental health difficulties, including mental illness, autism, challenging behaviour and forensic needs, who are referred to the learning disability service.
- Assessment of patients referred to the service at service users’ homes and in clinic.
- Advice and consultancy where appropriate to the Community Learning Disability Team and other colleagues.
- Support, including supervision where appropriate to non-medical prescribing colleagues, including the nurse prescribers.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Applicants should hold full GMC registration and be included on the Specialist register of the GMC or be eligible for entry to the Specialist Register within 6 months of the interview date.
- Applicants must be Section 12 Approved at the time of commencing employment and have or be eligible to have Approved Clinician Status.
- Remuneration will be as set out in the terms of the New Consultant Contract according to previous experience.

- At least 2.5 SPAs as standard for a full time post (flexible in looking at enhancements to support other activities that support the wider ambitions of the Trust).
- Excellent peer support group.
- Study leave budget of £3,000 over 3 years or up to £5,000 over 3 years for newly qualified Consultants.
