The Sensory Inclusion Service has a vacancy for 2 days for a qualified teacher of the deaf or a qualified teacher for visual impairment, working term time on a peripatetic basis. Due to flexibility within the team, we can consider a candidate with either of these qualifications for this 2-day vacancy. The post is based in Crewe, with a caseload likely to be mainly around the Crewe and Nantwich area, although travel anywhere in the local authority may be required. A clean, current driving license and a vehicle will be required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to children and young people with hearing loss or vision impairment in homes, settings and schools, and work collaboratively with parents, carers and a range of professionals.
  • Work as part of a friendly and proactive team committed to providing an excellent service for children and young people with hearing loss and/or vision impairment.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and performance management as part of the team.

About you / Qualifications and experience

  • Experience of working with children and young people with hearing loss or vision impairment, families, school and settings, and a range of other professionals.
  • Commitment to multi‑agency working and safeguarding children and young people.
  • Qualified teachers of the deaf should have a qualification in British Sign Language level 2, good knowledge of the development of language and communication in children and young people with hearing loss, knowledge of Audiology, and experience of carrying out assessments, writing reports and attending annual reviews and multi‑agency meetings.
  • Qualified teachers for visual impairment should have good knowledge of technology and braille, be confident using assessments of functional vision, and consider the overall needs of children in terms of visual and tactual development, social skills, access and independence.
  • Candidates should be able to work well as part of a team; have excellent interpersonal skills; and have a strong commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people with hearing loss and/or visual impairment.
  • Flexibility is essential within this role.

Requirements

  • Location: Crewe with travel within the local authority as required.
  • Two days per week on a term‑time, peripatetic basis.
  • A clean, current driving license and a vehicle are required.

Salary and benefits

  • Pay will depend on experience: MPS Min - £32,916; UPS Max - £51,048 plus SEN min £2,787 to SEN Max £5,497.
