We are looking to recruit a staff nurse to join our small team of SACT nurses who deliver systemic anti‑cancer therapies on site in the Macmillan Cancer Unit at Leighton Hospital. This role offers the opportunity to learn and develop new skills within a supportive environment. The unit operates Monday to Friday, with potential for weekend work as the service expands to provide more SACT closer to home. Flexibility between the hours of 8am and 8pm is required.
Key responsibilities include:
- Perform comprehensive assessment of patient nursing needs and plan, implement and evaluate care.
- Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team and agencies to ensure patient needs are met.
- Involve patients, relatives and carers in the delivery of care, providing reassurance and support.
- Prepare the clinical area for safe practice, ensuring cleanliness and readiness of materials and equipment.
- Provide escort and transfer for patients as directed by the multidisciplinary team.
- Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
- Collect, collate and report information, maintaining accurate patient records and documentation.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working with cancer patients or in a cancer setting.
- Experience in chemotherapy administration and completion of a degree level module for chemotherapy administration or SACT passport.
- Experience in cannulation, accessing CVADs, and phlebotomy, with confidence to administer chemotherapy under nurse‑led protocols.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work well as part of a small team.
- Flexibility to work between 8am and 8pm; willingness to accommodate potential weekend shifts.
