Patient Safety Partners are patients, carers, family members or other lay people who are recruited to work in partnership with staff to influence and improve the governance and leadership of safety within an NHS organisation. This is an exciting role, supported by NHS England to provide support and advice to the Trust, playing a key role in the development of a patient safety culture, safety systems and improvement activity.

Responsibilities

  • Membership of safety and quality committees whose responsibilities include the review and analysis of safety data
  • Involvement in patient safety improvement projects
  • Working with patient safety specialists to consider how to improve safety
  • Involvement in staff patient safety training
  • Participation in patient safety investigation oversight groups
  • Providing appropriate challenge to ensure learning and change follows
  • Supporting the development and implementation of relevant strategies and policies
  • Ensuring that any committee/group of which they are a member prioritises the service user, patient, carer and family perspective and champions a diversity of views
