Gentle, fun and creative Personal Assistant wanted to support a bright and chatty 13-year-old girl. The role mainly involves engaging with her at home through arts and crafts, singing, playing, and chatting. The job will also involve some personal care. Training such as gastrostomy feeding and first aid will be provided. This position is for a female applicant only due to the nature of the care duties. The role is exempt under the general occupational requirement section of the Equality Act 2010.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with the child at home through arts and crafts, singing, playing, and conversation
  • Provide personal care as required
  • Support the child’s communication, including AAC and Makaton needs
  • Monitor health and well-being and adapt as needed to maintain calm, safety and happiness
  • Assist with outings when appropriate and safe (e.g., library visits, shopping) if not crowded or noisy
  • Maintain hygiene, be tidy and well organised

Qualifications and Attributes

  • Gentle, patient, and calm with a positive, fun attitude
  • Ability to recognise when the child needs quieter or more relaxed support
  • Experience with children who are autistic or have learning disabilities, medical or sensory needs is advantageous but not essential
  • Kind, caring, and willing to learn
  • Reliable with good timekeeping and able to follow instructions or work on own initiative
  • Hygienic, tidy and well organised
  • Physically fit and able to undertake the duties
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a cheerful demeanour
