The predicted salary is between 53755 - 60504 £ per year.

This is a Consultant Diabetes and Endocrinologist position for 10 Programmed Activities per week with an additional PA available subject to negotiation and will include participation in a 1:8 hot week on-call. Teaching and participation in audit and research interest are encouraged.

The post holder will join an existing team of dynamic Consultants and undertake OPD and IP activities at Walsall Manor Hospital NHS Trust and, given the skill sets, may participate in the development of services. The Diabetes and Endocrinology department has a robust programme for mentoring the new Consultant appointment: the successful candidate will have a clear designated supervisor within the departments and appraisal annually with set PDPs.

This post is available to applicants seeking LTFT working arrangements. Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring a commitment to providing a high-quality Diabetes and Endocrinology service to patients by continual development of practice in the light of research evidence and by audit against Clinical standards.
  • Providing advice to primary and secondary care colleagues in other specialities in relation to clinical problems and overseeing the internal referrals assessed by junior and specialist Diabetes and Endocrinology team.
  • Providing a comprehensive outpatient service from clinics in both the main Outpatient Department and specialist clinics held within the Clinical Measurement Unit.
  • Supporting teaching and training of junior medical staff and medical students in Postgraduate Medical Education.
  • Encouraging audit and research and developing close links with academic initiatives.
  • Actively participating in CME and personal development programmes.
  • Developing an interest in Diabetic and Endocrine interventions.
  • Supporting the ongoing development of services for Diabetes and Endocrinology in line with existing programmes liaising with community and primary care services.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 284,300, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities. A new Urgent Emergency Care Centre was opened in March 2023, significantly improving emergency care facilities and capacity.

The working week for a full-time Consultant is comprised of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), each of which has a nominal timetable value of 4 hours. A job plan regarding work distribution will be agreed with the Clinical Director and postholder on appointment.
