We are currently recruiting for an experienced CNC Setter/Operator to join a well-established manufacturing business in Crewkerne. This is a hands-on role working with sliding head machines and grinders, offering the opportunity to take full ownership of machining processes from setup through to inspection.
The Role
- You will be responsible for setting and operating CNC sliding head (Citizen) and grinding machines, ensuring high standards of quality, safety, and production efficiency are maintained at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Full setup and operation of CNC sliding head and grinding machines
- Selection and loading of CNC programs, with the ability to make adjustments where required
- Reading and interpreting technical engineering drawings
- Carrying out first-off inspections and in-process quality checks
- Using precision measuring equipment to maintain tight tolerances
- Monitoring machine performance and adjusting offsets, speeds, and feeds
- Completing work orders in line with production schedules (Kanban system)
- Recording production output and scrap accurately
- Maintaining tooling, programs, and documentation
- Supporting continuous improvement and identifying tooling or process enhancements
- Ensuring a clean, safe, and organised working environment (5S standards)
- Performing routine maintenance (TPM)
About You
- Proven experience setting and operating CNC machines, ideally sliding head (Citizen)
- Experience with CNC grinding machines is advantageous
- Ability to read and edit G-code (Fanuc preferred)
- Strong understanding of machining tolerances and quality standards
- Confident using inspection equipment such as micrometers and verniers
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve production issues
- Flexible and adaptable within a fast-paced manufacturing environment
