Laboratory Technician Clydach, Swansea £33,435 pro rata 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday Full time, ongoing contract Introduction Acorn by Synergie is currently recruiting on behalf of their client for a Laboratory Technician to join the Mond Nickel Refinery in Clydach, Swansea.

Owned and operated by Vale Europe, the Mond Nickel Refinery has refined nickel for more than 120 years and is recognised as one of the world's leading refineries.

  • Key Duties
  • Ensure all activities comply with QA Laboratory, Refinery, and EH&S requirements.
  • Collect refinery samples.
  • Prepare and analyse product and process samples in line with standard procedures.
  • Record analytical results in laboratory workbooks and refinery databases.
  • Operate, standardise, and carry out routine maintenance on laboratory equipment.
  • Identify non conforming work and take corrective action where required.
  • Maintain 5S standards and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in Safe Work Procedure reviews, risk assessments, and team meetings.
  • Assist with non routine work and training of new staff when required.
  • Work overtime where necessary to support refinery operations.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.
  • Minimum two years' laboratory experience, ideally within the chemical or metals industry.
  • Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and environmental sustainability.
  • Excellent communication and record keeping skills.
  • Flexible approach to work.
  • Strong interest in supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
