This is a unique and exciting opportunity for an experienced practitioner to lead the existing mother and baby unit in Chorley. The unit provides a service for women in Lancashire and South Cumbria and is part of a national MBU bed allocation.

The post will involve working as part of a multi-disciplinary team within the mother and baby unit. You will be working in partnership with all providers, third sector organisations, local authority social services and family teams in delivering specialised mental health care for mothers and their babies within an inpatient setting.

We would welcome applicants who have a special interest in perinatal mental health and have recent experience working in a leadership role within an inpatient setting. There will be opportunities to attend training and development to support this role.

The post holder will carry continuous responsibility for the management of the 8 bedded mother and baby unit and outreach service, including:

  • Assessment of new referrals
  • Development, implementation, and evaluation of care programmes
  • Follow up in the community for mothers who are discharged from the unit
  • Development and monitoring of standards of care

As budget holder, the manager will be responsible for:

  • Recruitment, retention and supervision of staff
  • Management and monitoring of stock and non-stock items

The post holder will act as the Duty Nurse as per rota and will carry responsibility for collaborative working with stakeholders, community mental health teams and Universal Children and Families services to include safeguarding teams.

To actively promote teamwork, respect, integrity, accountability, excellence and compassion within the ward team in accordance with the Trust values and NMC code of conduct.

To oversee and ensure that nurse leadership within the multidisciplinary team provides effective assessment, formulation, planning and monitoring of care given to inpatient mothers and their infants and through the outreach function to mothers and infants in the community.
