A partnership NHS foundation trust is looking to hire Associate Hospital Managers to join the Independent Review Panel (IRP). The panel reviews and may discharge patients detained under the Mental Health Act 1983.
Key responsibilities:
- Review cases of patients whose detention is renewed or extended, or who appeal against their section.
- Chair or participate as a panel member in hearings, ensuring unanimous decisions about discharge of detention.
- Read reports from relevant professionals before hearings.
- Attend hearings normally between 9:30 am and 4 pm, Monday to Friday, and on short notice if required.
- Participate in twice‑yearly meetings/training events and other ad‑hoc sessions to stay updated on legislation and caselaw.
Qualifications:
- Not required to be a registered clinical professional.
- Suitable competency assessed if you wish to chair the panel.
- Experience or knowledge in patient care, law or mental health preferred.
Working arrangements:
- Sessional remuneration on a per‑session basis, with travel expenses claimed where appropriate.
- Chair or co‑chair panel consisting of a chair and two lay members.
- Hearings conducted via Microsoft Teams with optional face‑to‑face meetings at Trust sites across Cheshire and Wirral.
