JOB ROLE: Support Worker

LOCATION: Newport, Gwent (NP20)

PAY RATE: £13.20 - £13.90 per hour

SHIFTS: 08:00AM - 20:30

A FULL UK DRIVING LICENSE IS ESSENTIAL

About Woodside Cottage & The Elms: At Woodside Cottage we offer bespoke support and enablement for eight people who, in addition to their Learning Disability, have additional support needs associated with Autism, an Acquired Brain Injury, Prada Willie Syndrome, complex health needs or physical disabilities. We encourage and motivate each person to feel good about themselves. We support people to gain confidence and do the things that are important to them and ultimately to lead happy and fulfilled lives. We encourage everybody to have a voice about what matters in their lives and our support is focussed on ensuring that their voice is heard about every aspect of their lives.

The Elms is separate to the main house and has two studio apartments. Our studio apartments offer a clear progression pathway. The pathway offers an opportunity for self-development and maximum personal growth, regardless of complex health and social care needs. The studio apartments provide a private space for staff to enable skill development or coaching sessions. People can trial independence in a setting which has 24 hour staffing available, to assist with development of their life skills. We feel that The Elms enables people who want to live more independently, take those first steps to greater independence within a safe, risk managed environment.

As a Support Worker, you will be involved in the day to day support and routine of the people within the service including:

  • Prompting people we support with independence whilst helping them live a fulfilling life;
  • Supporting and encouraging the development of personal skills through hobbies and interests;
  • Maintaining and helping with health care needs, including accompanying service users to routine appointments or administering medication;
  • Teaching life skills such as budgeting, paying bills & shopping;
  • Assisting with personal care (depending on person we support);
  • Assisting with domestic tasks including cleaning & cooking.

Experience within the care sector is not essential as we offer full training; however what you do need is the enthusiasm and commitment to live our company values every day to ensure we move mountains to support people to live happy and healthy lives.

Responsibilities:

  • Support and promote independence while helping service users lead a fulfilling life
  • Encourage development of personal skills through hobbies and interests
  • Assist with health care needs, including accompanying to routine appointments or administering medication
  • Teach life skills such as budgeting, paying bills, and shopping
  • Assist with personal care where required
  • Assist with domestic tasks including cleaning and cooking
