Program name: Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician Light Vehicle Standard (Level 3)

Our apprenticeship is geared toward training the next generation of fully‑fledged Service Technicians/Mechanics. Service Technicians/Mechanics service and repair light vehicles such as cars up to 3.5 tonnes. They are trained in all areas of vehicle mechanics and electronics, from engine and exhaust systems to air conditioning and security features.

Responsibilities:
  • Servicing vehicles: carrying out checks and maintenance according to the manufacturers’ guidelines.
  • Repairing and replacing faulty parts and components.
  • Advising the Service Receptionists about required repairs.
  • Producing time estimates.
  • Maintaining repair and service records.

Please note, the Service Technician/Mechanic role varies slightly by employer based upon the specific needs within the location.

Training Provided:

Training will be delivered using a combination of virtual classroom remote learning and face‑to‑face block release weeks at our state‑of‑the‑art training centre. Successful applicants must be prepared to travel to the Jaguar Land Rover Academy, in Leamington Spa, to complete their apprenticeship training. All training‑related costs are fully covered as part of the programme, including travel, accommodation, and meals. In the workplace, your personal, dedicated mentor will support your continued learning as you apply the skills and knowledge you have gained through the remote sessions and at the Jaguar Land Rover Academy. This apprenticeship combines off‑the‑job training with on‑the‑job learning, and you will be supported every step of the way.

Qualifications received:

On successful completion of the three‑year apprenticeship programme, you will receive the following qualification (or the equivalent qualification for your devolved nation): Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard in Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (Light Vehicle); Level 3 Award in Automotive Refrigerant Handling (EC842‑2006); JLR specific certifications.

Future prospects:

There are lots of opportunities to develop your career within our expanding retail network. Your early development is carefully mapped through your apprenticeship journey with your learning focused toward achieving an industry recognised qualification. Embedded within your training are the JLR global training materials. At the end of your apprenticeship programme, you'll undertake the JLR Level 2 assessment, the first step on the JLR internal learner journey.

Qualifications required:

GCSE grades 9 - 4 (A C) or equivalent in English, Maths and two other subjects. In Scotland, applicants must have or be predicted to achieve Scottish National 5 Grades A C or above in English, Maths and either a Science or Technical subject. 'Equivalent' grades include: BTEC first diplomas and certificates, OCR Nationals, Key Skills Level 2, NVQs, Essential Skills (Wales), Functional Skills Level 2, Core Skills (Scotland). We accept predicted grades and conditional offers can be made based on predicted grades.

We are looking for people with an interest in engineering and technology to thrive in this role. While full technical training will be provided, desired skills include problem solving, attention to detail and an aptitude for applied logic.
