We are looking for a Therapy Assistant to support our team of Occupational Therapists (OTs) and Speech & Language Therapists (SaLTs). The role includes creating resources and materials to support therapeutic sessions with children and young people with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, developmental trauma, neurodivergence, and communication or sensory processing differences. Our teams support children across settings including schools, children’s homes, and in our therapy suite. If you are keen to demonstrate creative and innovative know-how to help children and young people develop daily living skills, communication, emotional and self-regulation skills, sensory processing, and participation in learning, this is the role for you.

Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of activities designed by Occupational Therapists (OTs) and Speech & Language Therapists (SaLTs) in individual or group sessions (e.g., Lego groups, creative activities, workshops).
  • Help children and young people develop emotional regulation, sensory processing, self-regulation, communication and interaction skills, and functional participation in learning and daily routines.
  • Work within a trauma-informed, attachment-aware framework, recognising the impact of adverse childhood experiences.
  • Support co-regulation and reduce escalation by understanding behaviour as communication.
  • Collaborate with OTs, SaLTs, psychologists, educators, carers, and key adults.
  • Attend supervision, team meetings, and multidisciplinary discussions as required.
  • Provide feedback on progress, engagement, and outcomes.
  • Design and create resources and tools on behalf of team members.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience in Education, Health & Social Care, Child Development, Mental Health support, or a related field.
  • Training in trauma-informed practice, attachment theory, or neurodevelopment is desirable.
  • Experience working with children and young people with SEMH, trauma, neurodivergence, or additional needs.
  • Aware of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.
  • Ability to build safe, trusting relationships with children and young people.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong IT skills with the ability to create quality visual resources using digital design tools such as Boardmaker, Canva, or similar software.
