Torus Foundation is looking for a friendly and reliable Catering Assistant to join the team at FireFit Hub on a part-time basis, supporting the day-to-day running of Café Recharge. You will prepare and serve food and drinks to young people, community users and commercial customers, deliver excellent customer service, handle cash and POS transactions, and maintain high standards of cleanliness and food hygiene. The role includes working independently during evening shifts, serving up to 100 young people in a busy and sometimes loud environment. You’ll enjoy being guest-facing, getting involved in food preparation, following recipes to produce home-cooked meals, using your initiative to problem-solve, and being flexible to work occasional overtime.

Working Pattern / Rota

  • Monday: 15:30 – 20:00
  • Tuesday: 15:00 – 20:00
  • Wednesday: 15:00 – 20:00
  • Thursday: 15:00 – 20:00
  • Friday: 9:30 – 14:00

Due to FireFit Hub operating on annualised hours, the contracted hours for this role are 25.34 per week. The scheduled shifts total 24 hours, with the remaining hours allocated to non-regular duties such as one-to-ones, in-house training completion, on-site or off-site training, and staff meetings. Flexibility is essential, as there is often overtime available to cover annual leave, staff training, and to meet the needs of the business.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Prepare and serve food and beverages in the café, including catering for internal and external bookings.
  • Accurately process orders and transactions using the Legend point of sale system, including cash handling in line with Torus Foundation procedures.
  • Deliver consistently high standards of customer service to all users and customers.
  • Support stock control and monitoring, working under the direction of the Café and Food Team Leader.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and hygienic working environment in accordance with cleaning schedules and food safety standards, reporting faults or repairs as required.
  • Work towards agreed performance targets, including affordability and waste reduction.
  • Work closely with the management team to ensure the café offer meets the needs of young people, responding to feedback where appropriate.
  • Uphold safeguarding and child protection responsibilities, promoting the welfare and safety of Youth Zone members and reporting concerns in line with policy (training provided).
  • Undertake other duties within facility operations, appropriate to the role, as directed by management.
  • Be flexible to work evenings and weekends when required.

What We’re Looking For

  • A minimum of Level 2 Food Handling Hygiene Certificate
  • Experience of working in a catering environment
  • Excellent communication and/or written skills
  • Ability to work independently with confidence and discretion
  • Ability to work on your own initiative and prioritise tasks effectively
  • Experience of using a wide range of IT packages including Microsoft applications and Point Of Sale packages
  • Flexibility in approach to hours worked
