Part‑Time Receptionist/Admin Assistant (Maternity Cover) Barnardo's delivers services across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, supporting vulnerable children, young people and families through targeted interventions.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide a welcoming reception and telephone service for children, young people, families and visitors.
  • Manage room bookings and maintain attendance records.
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail and manage deliveries.
  • Respond to general enquiries by telephone and email.
  • Process service referrals and maintain accurate service user records in line with GDPR requirements.
  • Provide administrative support to Cardiff and Vale Services as required.
  • Collate data and assist with statistical reporting.
  • Manage diaries, arrange meetings and events, and take minutes when required.
  • Support health and safety and facilities‑related tasks.

About you

Prerequisites for the role include:

  • Previous experience in an administrative or office‑based environment.
  • Experience using IT systems, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases and Windows applications.
  • Experience in a reception or customer‑facing role.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with staff, young people and visitors.
  • Understanding of the importance of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and manage competing priorities.
  • A collaborative approach and commitment to positive team working.

Relevant experience may be drawn from employment, education, training or volunteering.
