My name is Ezra (he/they), a 20-year-old power wheelchair user living in the Cathays area of Cardiff. I am a trans man and require support from a personal assistant who is trans-friendly and will address me with the correct name and pronouns. I need assistance with upkeep of my home, hygiene, nutrition, and healthcare.
Responsibilities include:
- Cleaning
- Personal hygiene
- Food preparation
- Clothes washing
- Medication sorting
Place of Work: Work is primarily in my home located on the edge of Cathays and Roath. I live with four other people, my partner Joseph, and three friends. Tasks may need to be completed in my downstairs bedroom, downstairs bathroom, living areas, kitchen, and upstairs bathrooms.
Hours of Work: I have 4½ hours of agreed support per week, typically divided into 3 hours early in the week and 1½ hours at the end of the week. This usually falls mid-morning on Monday and Friday, but may be adjusted for appointments and university timetabling.
Rate of Pay: £14.50 per hour. Benefits: 5.6 weeks paid holiday (pro rata). Pay is issued every four weeks. A National Insurance number is required. A DBS check must be applied for at the personal assistant’s expense.
Tasks Involved:
- Sorting medications and medication reminders
- Washing clothes and towels
- Cleaning, vacuuming, and general domestic tasks
- Food preparation
- Assistance with travel to medical appointments and other tasks outside the house
- Occasional support with shopping and nature outings (ideally with a driver’s licence and vehicle)
