What You’ll Be Doing
As our Site Caretaker, you will play a key role in keeping Birchwood School running smoothly. Your days will be varied, active, and essential to ensuring our pupils and staff have a safe and welcoming place to learn.
Responsibilities
- General Maintenance
- Carrying out daily repairs and planned maintenance
- Completing essential health and safety checks
- Inspecting heating, lighting, and alarm systems
- Supporting cleaning tasks when needed
- Grounds & Presentation
- Gardening, landscaping, and keeping outdoor spaces tidy
- Painting, decorating, and improving site appearance
- Managing tools, equipment, and materials
- Site Security
- Opening and closing the school each day
- Performing regular security checks
- Supporting traffic flow on site
- Working with contractors, overseeing site inductions, and supervising when required
- Vehicle Support
- Carrying out basic checks and cleaning of school vehicles
What You Bring
- Ideally, you’ll have experience with basic repairs, maintenance, or caretaking.
- Clear communication and great organisation.
- The ability to work independently and stay calm under pressure.
- A basic understanding of health and safety (training available).
- Confidence travelling locally using school vehicles.
- Qualifications in construction, engineering, or IOSH are an advantage but not a requirement.
