Responsibilities
- Ensure that the Primary School Free Breakfast Initiative is operated in accordance with the Welsh Government’s Guidelines.
- Follow food hygiene and health and safety requirements.
- Plan and organise daily breakfast sessions, ensuring staff are trained and there is an even distribution of work and quality of service.
- Order, store and monitor food supplies, ensuring breakfast provisions meet nutritional and allergy requirements and ensure allergy management and medical care plans are implemented.
- Assist in the preparation and serving of food and beverages.
- Ensure there is a welcoming, calm and inclusive environment.
- Be responsible for the supervision of pupils before, during and after serving breakfast and arrange simple activities for them to participate in.
- Support positive relationships and behaviour in line with school policy.
- Supervise the safe escorting of children to always ensure their wellbeing, for example going to classrooms when breakfast club ends.
- Communicate with parents and carers to ensure that the Breakfast Club policies are followed.
- Promote the Breakfast Club within the school and the wider community.
- Administer all registers and report to the Headteacher.
- Report accidents in accordance with the School’s Health and Safety Policy.
- Support and act on School Policies including Safeguarding.
Requirements and Checks
This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check. Under the Education (Wales) Act 2014, all School Learning Support Workers must be registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).
Salary and Living Wage Supplement
The salary is subject to the Living Wage supplement effective 1st April 2026, which brings pay rates up to £13.45 per hour (SCP 3‑5). This supplement will be reviewed annually in April. Cardiff Council reserves the right to make any changes to or remove the Living Wage supplement.
