At Ian Williams, our Bristol Painting team now has an exciting opportunity for a Working Foreperson (formerly known as Foreman/Forewoman) to undertake the responsibility of organising, supervising, and providing continuous support to a team of Painters operating in the Bristol and surrounding area. We welcome talking to ‘hands on’ Forepersons who enjoy leading by example and can successfully encourage and motivate a direct trade workforce.

Your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Working on the tools, whilst maintaining the supervision of a directly employed trades team and managing site and labour allocation within residential, commercial and educational settings.
  • Daily management of team productivity, the regular reporting of this and job completion information communicated to the Contracts Manager.
  • Health and Safety reporting – completing on‑site welfare checks, monitoring safe ways of working, PPE, van and tool/equipment inspections.
  • Delivery of regular toolbox talks.
  • Pre‑work inspections, set‑ups and post inspections of works completed.

Expected qualifications and experience:

  • Experience as a painter with a proven track record managing projects.
  • Qualified to a minimum NVQ 2 level or equivalent in a core trade.
  • Experience of supervising sites/projects successfully within a painting or similar setting would be advantageous.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Possession of a full current UK Driving licence, which is essential to undertake the Working Foreperson role.
