Provide an efficient switchboard and information service 24/7 to all staff and customers of the Trust.

Carry out all responsibilities of an operator in a pleasant, courteous and professional manner at all times.

Use own initiative when dealing with situations outside procedure parameters, ensuring an appropriate and empathetic response.

Act as first point of contact for the Trust’s nine hospitals, receiving and distributing calls from the public, GP’s, internal callers, other hospitals and agencies.

Connect calls to extensions, exchange lines, or mobile staff via bleeps, mobile phones and radio pagers.

Handle unpredictable situations – anxious patients, patients with mental health problems, language or disability barriers, media inquiries and complaints – with sensitivity and initiative.

Respond to emergency and non‑emergency requests in accordance with designated written procedures.

Operate the switchboard consoles and Bleep System to maintain an efficient telephone service across the Trust.

Deal with medical emergencies, fire and intruder alarms, coordinating to ensure the right people are informed and directed.

Coordinate approximately 400 rotas daily for hospital staff.
