Job Summary: Provide Occupational Therapy assessment and rehabilitation services to children and young people with acquired and traumatic brain injury and neurological conditions. Work in clients’ homes, schools, colleges, community settings or designated clinic rooms, supporting participation and independence in daily living, school engagement, play, leisure, social routines, and transitions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Knowledge & Training: Hold a degree in Occupational Therapy; register with HCPC; member of RCOT; complete mandatory CPD; maintain specialist skills through supervision; training in safeguarding children, paediatric assessment tools, education systems, family‑centred practice.
  • Clinical Duties: Independently manage a caseload of clients with complex neurological rehabilitation needs; conduct comprehensive OT assessments; develop, implement, evaluate individualized treatment programmes; support daily living tasks, community access, equipment provision, environmental adaptations; refer to specialist services as required; apply evidence‑based interventions (cognitive rehabilitation, fatigue management, upper limb rehab, vocational rehab); deliver therapy in various settings including remote; evaluate outcomes; conduct risk assessments; provide education to clients, families, care teams; write detailed reports and goal plans; ensure data confidentiality.
  • Communication: Communicate sensitive and distressing information to patients and families; summarize complex data; produce clear, concise reports.
  • IT Skills: Use internet, Microsoft Office, Gmail, literature search engines, cloud‑based software.
  • Multidisciplinary Working: Contribute to MDT assessments and goal‑planning; attend MDT meetings; collaborate with physiotherapists, speech & language therapists, psychologists, dieticians, case managers, and other professionals; liaise with family, carers, solicitors, third‑sector organisations, and statutory services.
  • Supervision & Support: Participate in peer review, clinical supervision, and reflective practice; provide education and advice to families and professionals.
  • Service Development & Clinical Governance: Ensure compliance with professional guidelines; maintain accurate clinical records; participate in quality improvement data collection; inform Directors of protocol development; follow safeguarding, risk, infection control policies; report risks or safeguarding concerns.

Working Conditions

Work primarily from home, with travel to client homes, schools, colleges, or clinic rooms. Driving up to 4 hours in a day may be required. Frequent VDU and computer use. Concentration required during assessments and family interviews; may encounter challenging behaviour.
