Registered Nurses (RGN, RMN, RNLD) are recruited to act as Functional Assessors within the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Work Capability Assessment (WCA) services. The role offers a structured environment, predictable working patterns and focuses on carrying out assessments and producing written reports rather than providing clinical treatment.

Key details:

  • Salary: £39,500 to £42,000 per year plus bonus
  • Location: Bristol assessment centre
  • Working pattern: Monday to Friday, office hours only (no nights or weekends)
  • Hybrid working: mixture of working from home and in the local office
  • No shift work, nights or weekends
  • Full‑time and part‑time roles available

  • Training: minimum 9‑week full‑time programme (may be longer with absence)

Responsibilities

  • Complete structured functional assessments within PIP or WCA services, focusing on how health conditions affect daily living or work capability, including:
  • Conduct assessments using telephone, video consultation, or face‑to‑face appointments in a non‑clinical setting
  • Review medical evidence and supporting documentation
  • Produce clear, objective written reports
  • Communicate professionally and sensitively with individuals being assessed
  • Maintain expected workload of approximately 3 PIP assessments or 4‑6 WCA assessments per day
  • Follow all relevant guidelines and procedures for assessments and reporting

Requirements

  • To be considered, candidates must:
  • Hold a valid NMC registration as an RGN, RMN, or RNLD
  • Have a minimum of 12 months post‑registration clinical experience
  • Show good written and verbal communication skills
  • Be comfortable using IT systems
  • Have the right to work in the UK (sponsorship not available)
