We will be holding an Assessment Day to recruit several ISW’s (Imaging Support Workers) working various patterns.
This role is entry level band 2; there is an opportunity to work towards band 3 on completion of relevant competencies.
You may be assigned to work in CT, MRI, Ultrasound, X-ray, Nuclear Medicine as well as covering reception.
There are multiple sites within North Bristol including Southmead, Cosham, Clevedon and Yate walk‑in centre.
As an ISW you will promote a friendly and welcoming environment greeting patients into the department and work alongside other imaging staff.
You will assist patients prior, during and post procedure ensuring their privacy and dignity is maintained.
You will act as a chaperone, reassure patients, keep the rooms tidy and escort and transport patients as required using wheelchair, beds, trolleys etc.
You will also coordinate the workflow coming through your designated working area.
We cover various working patterns between 07:00 and 22:00 7 days per week including bank holidays.
Responsibilities
Clinical:
- Support registered radiology/nursing staff in the provision of essential care to patients by assisting patients whilst in the radiology department according to trust policy and procedures.
- Act as a chaperone during examinations.
- Provide explanations and reassurance in imaging rooms.
- Aid dressing and undressing.
- Assist with reception duties when required.
- Promote and maintain a clean, comfortable and tidy environment in the department.
- Contribute to accurate written and computerised documentation relevant to patient care ensuring confidentiality of patient information at all times.
- Assist the multi‑professional team to prepare and support patients undergoing treatment and/or investigation maintaining privacy and dignity.
- Escort and transport non‑acute patients with no treatment in progress and/or their relatives/carers to other wards and departments within the Trust via wheelchair, beds and trolleys.
- Be aware of good health and the health education needs of patients as identified within individual care plans.
- After completion of appropriate training prepare and undertake agreed clinical activities (varied between wards and departments) such as:
- Receive and store medication and products.
- Use of mechanical aids to assist movement and handling of patients.
- Assist with the preparation of trolleys for use in clinical areas.
Reception:
- Promote a friendly and welcoming environment for both staff and visitors.
- Receive and assist patients and all visitors attending the department in a courteous and professional manner.
- Ensure request forms and other documentation is correctly completed in line with departmental procedures.
- Maintain and update accurate attendance, personal and appointment details on the Computerised Radiology Information Systems (CRIS).
- Update the electronic hospital system to ensure the correct patient details are available on the CRIS.
- Confidently deal with queries coming through the department via telephone and face‑to‑face.
- Receive and accurately pass on information to relevant personnel.
- Deal with incoming post and distribute throughout the area and, where necessary, redirect to the correct area.
- Perform general clerical duties and work within clerical teams under the office supervisor.
Personal Responsibilities
- Maintain personal standards of hygiene and promote universal precautions to limit cross‑infection.
- Wear uniform as agreed by North Bristol Trust.
- Participate in training and development programmes as identified by the department manager and contribute to the development of others.
- Keep up to date with changing practice; attend Trust training programmes as required.
- Ensure the Trust’s policies and procedures are known and followed.
- Refer to the registered radiographer/nurse regarding any situation which is not within your current responsibility.
