We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Adult Dietetic Service at Bristol Royal Infirmary. This role offers a varied and rewarding experience, working both with the inpatient nutrition and dietetic team at the BRI and the Adult Metabolic Team supporting patients across the South West. This is an excellent opportunity for someone keen to build experience and develop their skills in patient care. You will spend three days a week supporting dietitians on the wards and two days working alongside the Adult Metabolic Team, gaining exposure to a wide range of clinical areas. Therefore you will need good communication skills and a methodical approach to work.

The DSW works under supervision to help dietitians deliver a nutrition and dietetic service for patients and their carers, including healthcare professionals. They also help to support implementation of food & nutrition policies and guidance into practice across the Trust. We welcome applications from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic candidates.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Communication
- Use empathy and understanding when speaking with patients or carers who may be upset or emotional
- Take part in discussions with ward and hotel services staff to help improve patient nutrition
- Respect confidentiality of all matters that are learned as a result of working in the NHS, including matters relating to other staff members, patients and members of the public
Patient Care
- Check in daily with your supervising dietitian to update them on individual patient care
- Undertake & record patients’ height and weight accurately
- Help complete food and fluid charts for patients to monitor their intake
- Carry out manual and computerised dietary analysis of food record charts
- Monitor what patients eat and drink, including prescribable oral nutrition supplements, and compare it to their nutrition care plan to help them meet their dietary needs
- Record test results for individual patient
- Assist with planning for patients to leave hospital (discharge)
Organisation and Planning
- Collect data for audits to help improve patient nutrition (e.g. checking portion sizes or observing mealtimes)
- Undertake admin tasks to help the dietetic service run smoothly
- Order and manage supplies like feeding equipment and nutritional supplements
Information Resources
- Make sure teaching materials are ready for training sessions, as requested
Other
- Complete competency-based training as directed by your dietetic supervisor
- Once trained, lead basic nutrition sessions for various staff & students
