Semi Senior Accountant | Cheshire / Stoke-on-Trent | Full Time with Hybrid option once established | Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm | £32,000 – £38,000 DOE

Are you an experienced Practice Accountant looking for a role that offers greater autonomy, broader client exposure, and the opportunity to make a genuine impact within a close-knit team?

Our client is a well-established independent accountancy practice operating across Cheshire and Stoke-on-Trent, supporting a varied portfolio of SME and owner-managed business clients. With a collaborative and fast-paced environment, this is a business where every team member plays an important role and individual contribution is highly valued.

Due to continued growth and increasing client demand, they are now looking to appoint a Semi Senior Accountant to strengthen the team and support delivery across both offices.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to move into a broader, more hands-on role with strong exposure across accounts, tax and client management, whilst working closely with senior leadership.

What will your role look like?

  • Preparing statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
  • Producing VAT returns and management accounts for a varied SME client base
  • Supporting both corporate and personal tax compliance activities
  • Managing multiple client assignments simultaneously and ensuring timely delivery
  • Working directly with clients to gather information and provide day-to-day support
  • Taking ownership of work through to completion under manager review
  • Supporting delivery of subcontracted and overflow work where required
  • Building strong client relationships and maintaining excellent service standards
  • Ensuring work is completed accurately and in line with deadlines
  • Contributing to a busy and collaborative practice environment
  • Exposure to a broad range of SME and owner-managed clients, providing varied day-to-day learning and development
  • Occasional client visits may be required, though this is not a regular expectation

Are you the right person for the job?

  • 2–4 years’ experience within a UK accountancy practice environment
  • Strong accounts preparation experience from trial balance through to completion
  • Experience producing VAT returns and supporting tax compliance activities
  • Comfortable managing work independently with minimal supervision
  • ACA / ACCA part-qualified or Qualified by Experience (QBE)
  • Experience using cloud-based accounting systems such as Xero, Sage or QuickBooks
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Confident communicating directly with clients
  • Positive, adaptable approach and comfortable working within a small team environment
  • Ability to work autonomously in a busy practice environment
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced SME setting with varied responsibilities across multiple client types
  • Full UK driving licence preferred due to office locations and occasional travel between sites/client visits

What's in it for you?

  • Salary circa £32,000 – £38,000 depending on experience
  • Opportunity to work closely with senior leadership and gain wider exposure
  • Broad experience across accounts, tax and client advisory work
  • High levels of autonomy and ownership from day one
  • Exposure to a diverse SME and owner-managed business client base
  • Strong progression opportunities as the practice continues to grow
  • Ability to work across both Cheshire (Congleton area) and Stoke-on-Trent offices, including free parking available at both office locations
  • 28 days holiday (including bank holidays), rising over time with service (with uplift from one year plus)
  • Support for professional development and qualifications, including study support and time off for exams (including apprenticeship support where relevant)
  • Hybrid working available, with ad hoc flexibility initially and potential for a more regular arrangement once established in the role.
