Morson are exclusively recruiting for CNC Machinists to work Dayshift on behalf of our client GKN Aerospace. The role is based at GKN Western Approach near Severn Beach (postcode is BS35 4GG). 6 months initially although highly likely to be long-term rolling contract/temporary to permanent. This site produces carbon fibre wing spars for major aircraft platforms including the A350 and A400M.
This position is suited to CNC machinists with composite or metallic machining backgrounds, looking to work with modern CNC router and 5 axis technology. Candidates MUST have LEVEL 3 qualifications (includes NVQ or City & Guilds) or apprenticeship - proof of certs will be required. If you do not have Level 3 qualifications or apprenticeship and no prior CNC experience, the client will not be able to consider you.
Rate(s):
- Core Days whilst training: £18.43
- 7 day fortnight pattern: £23.59 PAYE per hour standard rising to £24.64 PAYE per hour when training stamp approved (approx 12 weeks)
- Overtime during the week paid at £27.65 PAYE rising to £28.88 PAYE when training stamp approved
- Overtime during the weekend paid at £36.86 PAYE rising to £38.50 when training stamp approved
Shift Pattern:
- 7 day fortnight shift pattern - 40.25 hours per week (average over 2 weeks)
- Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday – 06:00–18:00
- Week 2: Wednesday and Thursday – 06:00–18:00 (occasionally 07:00–19:00)
- Core Days Training Period (1–2 weeks): Monday to Friday, 07:00–15:00
Key Responsibilities:
- Manufacture and machine composite and metallic aircraft components up to 15 metres
- Operate CNC routers and 5-axis Zimmerman drilling/fettling gantry machines
- Use Renishaw probing systems and cutter tool-setting equipment
- Load and set fixtures and tooling on CNC machinery
- Work to aircraft drawings, specifications and quality standards
- Follow Health & Safety, COSHH and risk assessment procedures
- Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement activities
- Work effectively within small operational teams
- Undertake training in advanced composite manufacturing techniques
Requirements:
- Level 3 Apprenticeship (NVQ or City & Guilds) – mandatory
- Experience setting and operating CNC machines
- Siemens 840D knowledge beneficial but not essential
- Ability to interpret drawings and work to tight tolerances
- Good communication skills and strong attention to detail
- Able to work night shift patterns
