Location: Bolton (Hybrid - 3 days office / 2 days home)
Contract: Temporary
Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday-Friday)
Salary: £40,000 FTE (approx. £18 per hour)
Role Overview
This is a hands-on, operational HR role focused on managing a varied and often complex employee relations caseload, alongside supporting wider HR activity and providing day-to-day guidance to HR Coordinators. You will need to be confident operating in challenging environments, including engaging with trade unions and managing difficult conversations.
Key Responsibilities
- Employee Relations: Manage complex ER cases from start to finish
- Advise on disciplinary, grievance, attendance, capability, and performance matters
- Lead investigations including interviews and report writing
- Support hearings and appeals
- Manage challenging stakeholder and union interactions
- Maintain accurate case records and trackers
Advisory & Stakeholder Support:
- Provide clear, practical HR advice to managers
- Coach managers on handling people issues
- Attend meetings across services (travel required)
Employment Law & Policy:
- Ensure compliance with UK employment law and ACAS guidance
- Support policy development and updates
Workforce Compliance:
- Advise on right to work and immigration requirements
- Support sponsorship and compliance processes
Team Support:
- Provide guidance to HR Coordinators
- Act as escalation point for complex cases
- Promote consistent and professional HR practices
Person Specification
- Strong ER case management experience
- Solid understanding of UK employment law
- Experience working with trade unions
- Confidently handling difficult and sensitive situations
- Able to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment
Additional Requirements
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
- CIPD Level 5 (or equivalent)
- Experience within public sector, social care, or similar environment desirable
