Hays are currently working with a specialist school in Bolton providing high-quality education for children and young people aged 11-16 with a range of complex needs, including autism, severe learning difficulties (SLD), profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), communication needs, sensory processing differences and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, who are seeking an exceptional and compassionate SEND Teacher to join their dedicated team and play a key role in transforming the lives of their learners.
Location: Bolton
Rate: Up to £230/day DOE
Contract: Full-time, temp to perm
Start Date: ASAP
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging, individualised lessons tailored to pupils with significant and varied SEND needs.
- Use a range of multi-sensory, therapeutic and communication-focused teaching approaches (e.g., TEACCH, PECS, Makaton, sensory-based learning).
- Work closely with support staff, therapists, families and the wider multi-disciplinary team to deliver consistent, holistic support.
- Create a safe, nurturing classroom environment that promotes emotional regulation, independence, and positive behaviour.
- Develop, implement and review personalised learning plans, EHCP targets and behaviour support strategies.
- Use assessment tools appropriate for SEND settings to evidence progress in small, meaningful steps.
- Support pupils with personal care, physical needs and medical requirements as needed (training provided).
- Contribute to wider school life, school events, and cross-curricular activities.
Key Skills/Experience:
- A qualified teacher (QTS/QTLS); applications from ECTs and specialist SEND teachers welcome.
- Passionate about working with children and young people with complex SEND needs.
- Skilled in adapting teaching to support a wide range of abilities and communication styles.
- Calm, patient and resilient, with a nurturing and restorative approach.
- Confident building strong relationships with pupils who may have challenging behaviour or high levels of need.
- Collaborative and reflective, committed to ongoing professional development.
- Knowledgeable (or keen to learn) about SEND pedagogies, sensory-based learning and therapeutic teaching approaches.
