The following are the core responsibilities of the Salaried GP within Primary Care:
- Provide high quality medical care to patients registered with the practice.
- Provide a full range of services in line with the requirements of the GMS/PMS (17c) Contract and Enhanced Services Contracts.
- In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make himself or herself available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations, patient home visits, dealing with queries, patient test results and own generated admin.
- Adhere to best practice recommended through clinical guidelines.
- Refer patients as appropriate and in accordance with local guidelines, utilising advice and guidance.
- Provide appropriate health promotion advice to all patients.
- Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation, and maintain good clinical records (manual or electronic) in line with good practice.
- Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions, adhering to local and national guidance.
- Ensure good clinical governance is part of patient care and other practice activities.
- The post-holder will be expected to undertake all normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care, GMC guidance or good medical practice.
- Effective management of Long-Term Conditions, attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings as required.
- Support the partners in achieving the strategic aims of the practice, making recommendations to enhance income and reduce expenditure.
- Review and always adhere to practice protocols and policies.
- Ensure compliance with the appraisal process, commit to self-learning and continuing professional development.
- Prepare and complete the re-validation process.

- Supporting the practice staff and responding to requests for advice and assistance from the practice reception, secretarial and nursing staff.
- Aware of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g., prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety, annual QOF.
- Participate in practice audits as requested by Clinical Leads.
