This vacancy is for a Consultant Histopathologist to work in a friendly, high‑performing cellular pathology department. We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague to work as part of a well‑established consultant team on a permanent basis.
The appointee will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive, efficient and high‑quality cellular pathology (Histopathology, Non‑gynae cytology & Andrology) diagnostic laboratory service, and will support mortuary and post‑mortem services. The appointee will develop a lead role/special interest and support the relevant MDT. They will participate in a fair and equitable “PUSH” system of work on a daily basis, be expected to report all areas of pathology serviced by this department and provide clinical advice on diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic indicators.
Responsibilities- Provide laboratory liaison and expert histological and cytological advice.
- Demonstrate extensive use of personal judgement in clinical decision‑making affecting patient management.
- Share oversight of specimen processing and report results with other consultant colleagues.
- Telephone liaison and discussion of individual clinical cases promptly to meet local KPI requirements.
- Advise on diagnostic tests, interpretation of results and general patient management to clinical teams.
- Interpret and report laboratory test results.
- Support mortuary services through post‑mortem and digital autopsy reporting.
- Carry out teaching, examination and accreditation duties, and contribute to postgraduate and continuing medical education locally, regionally and nationally.
