Your New Company A well-established and highly respected civil engineering and highways contractor is seeking a Buyer to join its growing team based in Greater Manchester.

Operating across infrastructure, highways and civil engineering projects throughout the North West, the business has built an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality projects through long-term partnerships, framework agreements and repeat business.

Due to continued growth and an upcoming team change, an opportunity has arisen for an experienced Buyer to join the business and play a key role within its procurement function.

Your New Role As Buyer, you will be responsible for the procurement of plant, materials and related services to support the successful delivery of construction and civil engineering projects.

Working closely with site teams, suppliers, estimators and the finance department, you will ensure cost-effective purchasing while maintaining excellent supplier relationships and accurate records.

  • Key duties
  • Procuring plant hire, construction materials and associated services.
  • Raising purchase orders and maintaining procurement records.
  • Comparing supplier quotations and undertaking cost analysis.
  • Liaising with site teams regarding plant and material requirements.
  • Assisting estimators with material pricing for tenders and bids.
  • Checking and authorising supplier invoices against purchase orders.
  • Resolving invoice and supplier queries.
  • Supporting month-end processes alongside the accounts team.
  • Maintaining supplier and subcontractor databases, including insurance records.
  • Monitoring stock levels and updating internal databases.
  • Supporting supplier reviews and procurement agreements.
  • General procurement and administrative duties as required.
  • What You'll Need to Succeed
  • Essential Previous purchasing or buying experience within the construction industry.
  • Experience procuring plant hire and construction materials.
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Desirable CIPS qualification or currently working towards CIPS accreditation.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
  • Previous experience working for a civil engineering, construction or infrastructure contractor.
