We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist SEN school in the B29 area of Birmingham for a SEN Teaching Assistant. The successful candidate will be patient, caring, and enthusiastic about supporting pupils with additional needs, contributing positively to their education and overall wellbeing. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored one-to-one or small group support for pupils with a range of special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, communication difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
  • Assist teaching staff in delivering engaging, differentiated lessons that meet individual learning goals.
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and social interaction through positive reinforcement and consistent care.
  • Support pupils with daily routines, emotional regulation, and sensory needs.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and parents/carers to ensure the best possible outcomes for each child.

About You

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with special educational needs in an educational, care, or community setting.
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A proactive attitude and genuine passion for supporting young people.
  • An enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).

Desirable

  • Relevant qualifications (Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Health and Social Care, or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of autism support strategies, PECS, or Makaton.
  • Experience working in a specialist school environment.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position.
