Hours per week: Variable. Contract: Permanent, subject to a 3‑month probationary period. Note: This role is offered on a zero‑hours contract. On average, we schedule approximately 20‑30 hours per week, depending on business needs. The role requires full availability on weekends. Please indicate your availability when submitting your application. Expected start date: ASAP. Reports to: Shop Manager.

As a Retail Assistant you will be expected to be self‑motivated and enthusiastic, with good customer service and retail administration skills, and the ability to work well under pressure to meet targets.

Responsibilities

  • Operate shop tills accurately, ensuring the correct monies are received and exchanged.
  • Maintain and replenish stock throughout the store.
  • Ensure stock is displayed in a professional and orderly manner.
  • Maintain a safe and professional environment at all times.
  • Engage and interact with all customers in a welcoming, friendly, and professional manner.
  • Create a positive and memorable shopping experience.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the product range sold by Korea Foods Company and, when appropriate, offer advice on said products.
  • Ensure the store remains safe and hygienic through regular housekeeping duties and general clean‑as‑you‑go duties.
  • Provide administrative support when required.
  • Remain conscious of visiting customers and vigilant for potential shoplifters, raising any issues with Store Management.
  • Comply with legal requirements, including T4 visa regulations: 20 hours per week during term time if studying a full‑time programme at degree level and above; 10 hours per week during term time if studying a full‑time programme below degree level; full time during vacation periods and after studies, until visa expiry; participation in an integral and assessed work placement as part of studies.
  • Perform any other reasonable management requests.

Qualifications

  • Valid UK working permit.
  • Ability to work flexibly within a team or alone.
  • Compliance with all health and safety regulations pertaining to the role.
  • Strong communication, customer service and organisational skills.
