We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Electrician in HMP Birmingham. The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week. Staff are required to work on a rota basis between 07.45am – 16.45pm. There will be a need to work 1 in 4 weekends, but this would be on a rota basis (and with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary). The base salary is between £29,009 - £35,015 dependant on experience.

At Amey, we’re supporting our justice client, His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) by providing them with safe, clean and efficient prisons. By using our facilities management expertise, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly.

What you will do:

  • Planned and preventative electrical maintenance, including administrative duties aligned to the tasks.
  • Actively fault finding / problem solving on electrical systems across the prison.
  • Carry out like for like replacements and other electrical minor works with the relevant electrical inspections and tests carried out and results recorded in accordance with BS7671.
  • Ensuring that all electrical systems are safe, compliant, and functioning effectively helping to create a secure and well‑maintained environment for staff and residents.
  • Assist the Responsible person and Authorised person when requested.
  • You’ll be responsible for ensuring that Health & Safety standards, Risk Assessments, and Safe Systems of Work are consistently implemented and followed across all appropriate work streams.
  • Assist escorting duties and other duties as required.

What you will bring:

  • City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation works or equivalent.
  • BS7671 18th Edition, however, we will consider 17th Edition with upskilling to 18th Edition.
  • Good working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.
  • Good working knowledge of planned and preventative maintenance operations.
  • Excellent organisational, time management and people skills.
  • Experience of working under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • Able to work at heights, to work independently and use initiative.
  • Understanding of fire alarm and CCTV systems, which will help you make an immediate impact. (Desirable)
  • Knowledge and experience of Electrical Systems and Electricity at work Regulations.
  • Basic IT skills.
