The West Midlands Growth Company (WMGC) is the region's investment promotion and destination management organisation. From April 2026, we will become the region's new Economic Development Vehicle (EDV), responsible for driving investment, business growth and visitor attraction in alignment with the West Midlands Growth Plan. We're creating a sharper, more commercially focused organisation—one that champions the region, strengthens our economy, and delivers measurable impact. You'll take the lead in delivering WMGC's first Commercial Partnerships Strategy (2026–2029), accelerating commercial income, and shaping a high‐performing function at the heart of our organisation. You'll be involved in:
- Delivering WMGC's new Commercial Partnerships Strategy and building a detailed plan to mobilise the programme by Q2 26/27.
- Accelerating commercial revenue growth across six commercial strands and contributing towards £2m commercial income by 28/29.
- Overseeing business development activity to ensure acquisition and retention of high‐value partners.
- Conducting market research and analysis to identify new commercial opportunities and expansion routes.
- Ensuring consistent, high‐quality delivery of partner benefits and engagement.
- Collaborating with teams across marketing, inward investment, tourism, and talent to deliver joined‐up partner experiences.
- Leading, coaching and developing a high‐performing commercial partnerships team.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Managing and growing a portfolio of commercial partners, ensuring strong engagement and maximised value for all parties.
- Reviewing and refining acquisition plans across partner categories to drive strategic growth by sector and region.
- Monitoring commercial performance using key metrics and reporting to senior leadership.
- Building strong external relationships across the private sector, local authorities, and wider stakeholder groups.
- Providing insight and recommendations based on market trends, commercial data and partner intelligence.
- Leading and empowering a team of five, fostering a culture of accountability, growth and continuous improvement.
- Helping shape WMGC's commercial model as we transition into the new EDV structure.
What You'll Bring:
- Essential: Proven experience as a Head of Commercial, Commercial Director, or similar senior commercial leadership role.
- Strong track record in securing six‐figure corporate partnerships.
- Extensive experience in sales, business development and partnership management.
- Solid understanding of financial processes, budgeting and performance reporting.
- Excellent communication and relationship‐building skills, with credibility at senior levels.
- Strong analytical capability—able to simplify complex information and provide insight.
