We are looking for suitable candidates to train as Dental Nurse apprentices at the Birmingham Dental Hospital in Edgbaston – one of the country’s leading centres of dental training and research. The apprenticeship is a salaried course commencing in September 2026 and offers a route to the City & Guilds Level 3 Dental Nursing Practitioner (Diploma) qualification.

As a Dental Nurse Apprentice you will support dentists in delivering high quality care, provide calm reassurance to anxious patients, and participate in all disciplines of dentistry through formal lectures, one‑to‑one tutorials and specialised placement opportunities across the West Midlands.

Requirements:

  • Maths GCSE Level 4/Grade C or equivalent
  • English GCSE Level 4/Grade C or equivalent
  • One other GCSE Level 4/Grade C or equivalent (preferably in a science‑based subject)
  • Demonstrated understanding of the role of a dental nurse and a keen interest in working in healthcare

Responsibilities:

  • Complete Level 3 Dental Nursing Practitioner (Diploma) coursework and units by specified deadlines.
  • Adhere to the General Dental Council’s Student Fitness to Practise guidance and maintain a positive approach to professional behaviour.
  • Maintain a high standard of patient care and professionalism.
  • Assist clinicians and staff in all aspects of dentistry with the required skill and knowledge.
  • Receive training on all clinical departments.
  • Communicate effectively with Senior Dental Nurses/Dental Nurse Managers whilst on secondment to departments/clinics.
  • Ensure statutory employment procedures and relevant Trust policies, including safety and infection prevention control, are adhered to.
  • Prepare dental equipment and clean specialist units in line with infection prevention control policies.
  • Attend lectures, examinations and training commitments as required to meet the learning outcomes of the programme.
  • Complete clinical rotation, including work experience.
  • Perform other duties commensurate with this grade of post, in agreement with the line manager.
  • Minimise the Trust’s environmental impact wherever possible by recycling, reducing waste, conserving resources and reporting faults promptly.
