The Local Transport Directorate is right at the heart of the Department for Transport’s business. Most journeys made in this country are short and local. They are the journeys that we all make, if not every day, many times a month. Our work makes a huge difference to the daily lives of millions, across England and across the UK, whether they are by bus, tram, walking or cycling.

The Bus Funding Division supports bus services across the country, helps keep fares low, and is leading wider reforms of the bus sector in line with the national bus strategy. Joining our department comes with many benefits, including:

We are looking for a motivated individual with a passion for delivering a quality service, an eye for detail, and excellent communication skills. The roles sit within the operations team, and the successful applicants will work across the current and future grants scheme processed by the department but currently consists of BSOG, BRG and legacy matters of CBSSG (Covid-19 Bus Service Support Grant).

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Checking the accuracy and validity of claims.
  • Determining how much is to be paid and liaising with operators on the details of the claim.
  • Dealing with general enquiries received in the dedicated email account.
  • Contributing to improving our ways of working as a Support to the Bus Grants Management Digital System, including assisting digital support for the claims process.
  • Issuing correspondence to recipients of the grant.
  • Supporting line manager and team lead on more complex queries and solutions.
  • Supporting wider team’s approach to fraud and error prevention.
  • Supporting accurate record keeping and audit trails for the grant including checks conducted and payments made.
