We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated Band 6 Dental Nurse Manager for a 12-month fixed-term secondment position based at Birmingham Dental Hospital. The role will support the full Group 2 portfolio (Unscheduled Care, Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Special Care, Paediatrics, Orthodontics & DOC). Discussions to be had re: portfolio responsibility with the successful candidate.

This role will include responsibility for the management and development of all support staff to ensure the smooth running of the Service. As a Dental Nurse Manager, you will demonstrate strong leadership skills and the ability to manage change in clinical practice and processes. You will also be able to independently make sound clinical and leadership judgment and regularly supervise the workload of junior colleagues. We are looking for an individual who is innovative, forward-thinking, dynamic, flexible and has strong leadership qualities in a fast-paced environment. The post holder will work in close collaboration with the Dental Matrons, Service Managers, Group Managers, Group Clinical Managers, Clinicians and Heads of Services.

Main Duties:

  • To work flexibly within a dental team providing high quality care to a wide spectrum of patients across localities within the integrated Dental Service BDH, CDS and mobile clinics and/or additional external sites as required.
  • You will act as the conduit for service-wide communication for certain specialities or a locality and will attend meetings on behalf of the Dental Matron.
  • Responsible for ordering equipment and stock, ensuring efficient control of levels within one locality or certain specialities by vetting all orders and maintaining a commitment accounting system.
  • Support the Clinical Leads, Divisional Director of Nursing and Therapies, Heads of Service and Dental Matron in the financial management of the service.
  • Participate in the management and improvement of an integrated Dental Service to include the development of policies and protocols as appropriate.
  • Manage Dental Nurses and support staff at all grades, including staff appraisal, development and identification of training needs.
  • Co-ordinate post-qualification training of Dental support staff.

Management and Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Develop and empower all members of your team to perform to high standards and innovate.
  • Ensure supportive staff management arrangements are in place and carry out appraisals/personal development reviews (PDRs) for direct reports.
  • Ensure all staff in your team have annual PDRs resulting in specific objectives and effective personal development plans.
  • Develop staff knowledge and skills to promote equality and diversity and address inequalities in employment and service delivery.
  • Ensure specific equality objectives are included in PDRs.
  • Develop a working culture that ensures Health and Wellbeing and promotes a 'Great Place to Work' and learning for staff.
