Reporting To: Centre Trustees
Job Purpose: To assist the resident Lama of Birmingham Karma Ling Buddhist Centre in his spiritual and temporal duties.
Context: Birmingham Karma Ling has been a centre of learning, meditation and spiritual support for over 40 years.
Key Responsibilities
- To assist in providing spiritual guidance for the Centre in line with the Palpung Sherabling tradition of Tibetan Buddhism under the spiritual direction of H H Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa.
- To assist the centre teacher and trustees to ensure the Centre follows the principles and practice of the Palpung Sherabling tradition.
- To provide assistance and guidance for Centre users as appropriate.
- To continue to develop their own spiritual practice and knowledge.
- To maintain and develop the relationship between the Centre and Palpung Sherabling Tibetan Buddhist Monastery.
- To abide by the key policies for the Centre including Safeguarding and Health and Safety.
Personal Specification
- Be a follower of H H Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa.
- Have completed at least one 3-year, 3-month, 3-day formal Buddhist retreat with an authorised teacher from the Palpung Sherabling Tibetan Buddhist tradition.
- Have a thorough knowledge of written and spoken Tibetan language.
General Information
The post is offered as a full-time position. In accordance with Buddhist principles no salary will be paid to the successful candidate [as monks serve unconditionally]. However, food and accommodation will be provided free of charge. This position does not qualify for the national minimum wage as the successful candidate would be a resident member of a religious community.
