I'm a gentleman in my early 70's living at home with my wife in Barry requiring a casual/part time personal assistant. Nine years ago I suffered a brain stem stroke which has resulted in some left sided weakness, Bells Palsy and problems with my balance. Due to this I also have a speech impairment and very poor vision due to losing the sight in my one eye. I can stand up on my own but need constant support to do this. Around the house I mobilise using a wheelchair, a weighted Zimmer frame and various rails on the stairs and in the bathroom. Despite my speech impairment, I can be understood and express my intentions.

At home I enjoy watching a bit of TV, listening to Classical music or to talk radio programmes. I am looking to employ a personal assistant to help and support me around the house with some light domestic tasks, meal preparation and some personal care. This will involve attending my home and supporting with showering, dressing and shaving. Also to assist me with preparing some lunch and possibly laundry, ironing or other light domestic duties as required. I'm normally quite happy to shower myself, but I just need someone there to ensure I'm safe and would need help with dressing due to my balance issues.

Rate of Pay: Meets NLW

Hours of Work: Nights only

Tasks:

  • Supporting me with showering, dressing and shaving
  • Helping with some laundry, ironing or other light domestic duties when required
  • Supporting me to prepare a meal or snack. I have some dietary requirements.
  • Making sure I am safe at all times around the house

The post is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS Disclosure (Police Check) which will need to be carried out before employment can commence. The cost of this will be met by the employer (Local Authority). The relevant checks will be carried out to ensure any applicant has the right to work in the UK before you start work. Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. The wage will be paid on a four weekly basis and appropriate holiday pay given.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Preferably someone with experience in a caring role
  • Someone who is friendly and happy to have a chat
  • Would suit a male or female applicant
  • Someone punctual and reliable
  • Someone who respects the privacy and confidentiality of working in someone else's home
