We are seeking a confident, strategic and forward‑thinking Lead Pharmacist (Band 8c) to oversee hospital pharmacy operations across a major acute site within BCUHB. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on leading large teams, shaping service strategy, driving governance and quality, and influencing senior stakeholders across clinical and corporate services.

You’ll be the professional lead for hospital pharmacy operations, ensuring safe, effective and modernised medicines management across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional leadership, development and management of the hospital pharmacy service.
  • Lead on expert pharmaceutical advice, including medicines legislation, emergency planning and procurement.
  • Oversee clinical governance, patient safety and quality, ensuring compliance with national standards.
  • Lead and manage senior pharmacy staff, including job planning, appraisals, performance management and workforce development.
  • Oversee operational delivery of hospital pharmacy services, ensuring safe, efficient and compliant medicines management.
  • Support training, education and competency development for pharmacists, technicians and trainees.
  • Lead on incident learning, safety improvement and risk reduction within pharmacy services.

Essential Qualifications

  • GPhC registration as a Registered Pharmacist.
  • Master’s degree in Pharmacy (or equivalent).
  • Significant senior management experience within hospital pharmacy.
  • Evidenced leadership of service development, governance and performance improvement.
  • Strong operational leadership skills with ability to influence at senior level.
