We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and hard working Band 5 Specialist Sedation Dental Nurse to join the Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine and Unscheduled Dental Care nursing team at Birmingham Dental Hospital.
The post holder will need to hold a post qualification in conscious sedation covering both IV and Inhalation Sedation and should be able to evidence CPD and Sedation Case Log.
Working Days: Monday and Friday. The post holder is expected to work between Monday to Saturday between the hours of 08:00 to 20:00 to support the service need.
To work flexibly within a dental team providing high quality care to a wide spectrum of patients across localities within the Dental Service, based at Birmingham Dental Hospital (BDH) and Community Dental Services (CDS) including Mobile Clinics and/or additional external sites as required.
- Dental Nurses will be expected to work flexibly across the Dental Hospital and within our outreach sites.
- To provide chair side assistance to clinicians within the dental service.
- To carry out clerical and administrative duties to ensure efficient operation of the clinic/department.
- Maintain a high standard of patient care and confidentiality within all dental clinics throughout the service.
- To prepare and monitor patients for and during their dental treatment, providing pre and post operative instructions as required.
- To undertake the general care of the surgery including dental equipment/instruments (medical devices) and arrange any necessary repairs as required.
- To ensure medical emergency drugs and equipment are available and up to date.
- To provide chair side assistance and postoperative instructions during general anaesthetic and exodontia sessions as required.
- To provide oral health education to patients as required by the clinician.
- To assist the Senior Dental Nurse in the smooth running of the Dental service.
- To support and assist clinicians including all student disciplines.
- To support and supervise all apprentice nurses, undergraduate groups.
- To support the patients through the conscious sedation pathway by providing chairside assistance, give pre-op and post-op instructions, prepare patients for discharge.
