We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Paediatric Diabetes Nurse to join our Paediatric Diabetes Team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced paediatric nurse to develop specialist expertise in the care of children and young people living with diabetes.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of children and young people with diabetes, delivering high‑quality, evidence‑based care from diagnosis onwards.
  • Provide specialist clinical advice, education, and support to children, families, and carers to promote safe treatment and effective self‑management.
  • Participate in paediatric diabetes clinics, follow‑up reviews, and community or home visits as required.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care in partnership with families and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Develop skills in insulin pump therapy and diabetes technologies, progressing towards teaching and supporting families in their use.
  • Contribute to developing and reviewing clinical protocols, pathways, and service improvements.
  • Support transition planning for young people moving to adult diabetes services.
  • Recognise and elevate safeguarding concerns in line with Trust policies.
  • Maintain accurate electronic patient records and support audit, service evaluation, and quality improvement.
  • Participate in education and training for families, ward staff, community teams, and other professionals.
  • Support Trust initiatives, risk management, and infection prevention and control standards.
  • Act as a visible, knowledgeable practitioner and positive role model within the paediatric diabetes service.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with a current nursing registration.
  • Experience working in paediatric nursing or diabetes care is preferred.
  • Ability to travel independently and efficiently across multiple community sites to meet the operational requirements of the role.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and adherence to evidence‑based practice.
