Introduction

I am looking to recruit a temporary Personal Assistant for approximately 6–8 weeks to provide cover whilst my regular PA is unavailable. I have lived with MS since the age of 18 and I am a wheelchair user. I enjoy watching nature programmes and would like support to experience more outdoor activities and social opportunities independently of my family. I would like assistance to pursue interests such as fishing, bird watching, visiting places of interest, attending social gatherings, going to the cinema, arts events, or simply enjoying a coffee outing. I have an adapted mobility vehicle, therefore no lifting is required when travelling out and about.

Main Duties

  • Support me to access the community and pursue my interests and hobbies
  • Help me with shopping
  • Drive and accompany me to activities and appointments using my mobility vehicle
  • Be mindful and considerate of fluctuating energy levels due to my condition
  • Support me to identify suitable activities, groups, and social opportunities. I like to attend the MS group meeting at the Starling Cloud Wednesdays 12-2.30.
  • Assist with planning and attending outings and activities
  • General support in my flat with tidying and paperwork
  • Provide companionship and encouragement to help me maintain independence

Person Specification

  • Friendly, outgoing, and kind-natured
  • Fun, positive, and easy to get along with
  • Understanding and mindful of varying energy levels
  • Interested in similar hobbies such as nature, wildlife, social activities, arts, or cinema
  • Able to use their own initiative and work independently
  • Trustworthy and able to maintain confidentiality and privacy
  • Able to build a good rapport with both myself and my family
  • A good communicator with strong interpersonal skills
  • A full driving licence holder and willing to drive my adapted mobility vehicle

This is a temporary position for approximately 6–8 weeks to cover staff absence.
