Care to Grow is a charity dedicated to supporting children’s wellbeing and emotional literacy. By training trusted adults in schools, the organisation helps children build the resilience and emotional tools they need to thrive in education and in life.
The role of Volunteer Buddies involves providing weekly check-ins with children who need extra support, giving them a meaningful break from the classroom, helping them feel more regulated, and enabling them to return to learning ready to engage. “This isn’t about being an expert, it’s about showing up consistently, building a genuine relationship, and becoming a trusted adult in a child’s life.”
What we’re looking for:
- A genuine passion for improving children’s mental health and wellbeing.
- Experience caring for, working, or volunteering with children or young people, formal or informal, including raising your own children.
- Commitment to one 2.15 hour session each week for at least one full term; sessions are flexible and can fit around school hours or other commitments. Term time only.
- Experience can take many forms - what matters is that you’ve had consistent, caring contact with children. This might include:
- Raising your own children
- Looking after younger family members
- Babysitting or childminding
- Youth club, Scouts, or Guides
- School reading volunteer or work placement
- Junior sports coaching
What we offer:
- The chance to make a tangible difference in the lives of children.
- Ongoing learning, training, and development opportunities.
- Half-termly reflective practice sessions with our training therapist - dedicated 30 minute zoom conversation to chat through your experiences and feel supported in the role.
- A welcoming community united by a shared mission.
If you’re passionate about helping children succeed emotionally and academically, we’d love to hear from you.
Safeguarding checks (including online checks) will be undertaken as part of our safer recruitment procedures. Due to safeguarding requirements of working pastorally with children in a trusted adult capacity, applicants must be aged 18 or older.
