We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Care Home Cook to join our team at our home in Hollywood, South Birmingham. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about preparing nutritious, home-cooked meals while working in a caring and supportive setting.
Summary of DutiesTo be responsible for the day to day running of the busy care home kitchen ensuring compliance with relevant Health & Safety and Food Hygiene requirements and company policy.
- Plan, prepare and cook nutritious meals for the homes service users ensuring their individual dietary needs are met.
- To liaise with the service users to develop a nutritious menu which takes into account their individual needs (including Allergens) and preferences and which offers choice.
- Prepare, cook and serve the meals, ensuring food is cooked and stored and labelled in line with food safety legislative requirements.
- Communicate and support the service users with dignity and respect.
- To ensure that all areas of the kitchen are kept clean and hygienic at all times following the cleaning schedule.
- Manage kitchen operations, including inventory control and ordering supplies as needed.
- To ensure efficient rotation of stock and that food is in date and correctly stored and labelled.
- Ensure that fridge, freezer, and food temperatures are tested and recorded daily in line with company policy.
- Ensure that all equipment is cleaned and maintained in accordance with manufacturers recommended guidelines.
- Follow the Safer Food, Better Business for food safety guidance.
- Report all breakages, health and safety concerns, potential hazards and maintenance requirements.
- Report accidents and incidents.
- To be aware of and abide by the company policies regarding infection control and personal hygiene.
Hours: 28 hours per week
Skills and attributes- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to plan, prepare and serve nutritious and varied meals to the service users in accordance with the menu.
- Experience of cooking for people with dietary requirements including allergens.
- Preparing and cooking meals on a large scale.
- Able to remain calm in emergencies and take appropriate action.
- Positive and enthusiastic attitude.
- Ability to work with the minimum of supervision using own initiative.
- Receive and carry out instructions from senior staff.
- Respect peoples rights and dignity and awareness of the importance of safeguarding practices.
