Senior Lawyer – Legal Services
Grade A – £52,737 (National) or £58,409 (London) plus £581 home working allowance and £2,500 recruitment & retention allowance.
Contract: Permanent, Full time 37 hrs/week.
Location: Flexible – home or office based (hybrid 2 days a week from home). Offices in London, Newcastle and Leeds.

Overview
As a Senior Lawyer within the Legal Services team, you will lead a team of legal professionals and provide expert advice on a wide range of legal matters, from criminal prosecutions to inquests, supporting CQC’s mission to protect people using health and care services.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support a legal team, managing, coaching and developing legal professionals to ensure high‑quality advice and advocacy.
- Provide expert legal guidance on enforcement, regulatory activity, civil litigation and public law proceedings.
- Monitor legal trends, identify recurring issues and use insights to improve delivery across CQC.
- Lead on complex litigation, including Judicial Review claims and First‑tier Tribunal appeals.
Qualifications & Experience
- Qualified solicitor, barrister or legal executive with at least 5 years experience and experience of Judicial Review claims (or transferable skills).
- Demonstrated leadership and coaching of legal teams, management of complex caseloads.
- Clear communication and problem‑solving skills; ability to explain legal issues and build trusted stakeholder relationships.
- Knowledge or willingness to acquire administrative and public law, civil litigation, regulatory law, employment law and data protection.
