Contract type: Part time, temporary with an estimated commitment of one day per week, over twelve weeks.

Day rate: £750 per day.

Are you committed to helping us regulate health and social care within England?

We are looking for individuals who are caring, demonstrate integrity, work great as part of a team and always strive for excellence in everything they do to help us make sure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care and we encourage care services to improve.

About the role

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is commissioning an independent review of its approach to assessment of maternity services and the associated governance, leadership and assurance arrangements. The review is intended to identify good practice together with opportunities for improvement that will support CQC’s development of specialist regulatory expertise as recommended by the Amos Review. The review will be led by an experienced Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) with a background in midwifery and significant expertise in governance, regulation and assurance. The CNO will lead a small, multi-disciplinary panel, including senior clinical expertise from obstetrics. We are therefore seeking to appoint a Consultant Obstetrician to contribute to this review.

Role and expectations

Working as part of a panel led by the CNO, the Consultant Obstetrician will:

- Provide expert clinical advice on CQC’s inspection of maternity care, including the approach to safety, quality and patient experience.

- Support the assessment of CQC’s regulatory decision-making, escalation and enforcement processes.

- Contribute to triangulation of evidence across regulatory practice, governance and organisational leadership including CQC’s implementation of sector-specific assessment frameworks related to maternity care.

- Support the development of robust, evidence-based findings and recommendations.

Commitment

Approximate commitment of 1 day per week over a 12-week period. Flexibility may be required to support key phases of the review.

Person specification

We would particularly welcome expressions of interest from individuals who:

- Are practising or recently practising Consultant Obstetricians with strong professional credibility.
- Have experience of clinical leadership and/or service improvement within maternity services.
- Are able to provide independent, objective and balanced professional judgement.
- Have experience supporting reviews, investigations or regulatory activity (desirable).
Terms

Remuneration will be aligned to senior clinical rates (indicative day rate in line with comparable NHS advisory work)
Further details regarding governance, confidentiality, indemnity and expectations will be confirmed on appointment
